Web Accessibility

The UW Accessibility Coordination team recently purchased a license for the Accessibility Management Platform (AMP) software from SSB Bart for the UW-Madison Campus. These tools provide a straightforward way for web developers to test websites for accessibility and comply with current web accessibility standards, including Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) A & AA . This will improve the overall usability and compliance of the entire UW Madison web presence and better serve the technological needs of differently abled users.

Through the tools in AMP, the tester can evaluate website accessibility either in browser by using the AMP Toolbars for Firefox and Internet Explorer or through a desktop client. Web pages and content protected behind NetID authorization can also be tested by individual pages, or the tester can use a spidering functionality to determine compliance of an entire public facing website. From there, AMP provides a report which can be shared with another member of the UW campus or can be disseminated at a division level. In addition to the auditing and reporting tools, AMP also provides training courses which highlight best practices in accessibility standards in web development for those maintaining and developing web pages.

For UW-Madison campus users, you can get started by logging into the Accessibility Management Platform using your NetID. Several pages compiled by the UW Web Coordination Team are available for your reference:
