New and engaging versions of the SSEC Satellite Meteorology
Timeline and the SSEC Instrument Development Timeline are now available on the
Schwerdtfeger Library website.
The Satellite Meteorology Timeline highlights the
contributions of Verner Suomi and the achievements of scientists and
researchers at the Space Science and Engineering Center from the First Rocket
Launch at Cape Canaveral to today. Each story in the timeline falls into one of
five categories delineated on the timeline: geostationary satellite technology,
polar orbiting satellite technology, McIdas, IGY/NASA/Sputnik, and Verner
Suomi.
Similarly, SSEC’s engineering accomplishments are highlighted
in the Instrument Development Timeline Each
event includes descriptions of the
project, images of the team and instrument, links to the project homepage, and applicable
news articles.
