New databases for scientific research and more

The university has recently subscribed to three exciting new databases:

DOE Data Explorer for Energy and Science Data is a database developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).  It includes their public collections of scientific research data as well as individual datasets from data centers, repositories, and other organizations within the Department of Energy.

DOE PAGES (Public Access Gateway for Energy & Science) is a work-in-progress collection of peer-reviewed journal articles and manuscripts produced from research funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.  DOE PAGES provides public access to these publications after a 12-month embargo period starting on the date of publication.  Although still in its beta phase, DOE PAGES plans to significantly expand its content over the next year and add approximately 20,000-30,000 scholarly articles each following year.  The National Science Foundation is now collaborating with the Department of Energy to use PAGES as the repository for NSF-funded research.

Kanopy (Films) provides free, on-demand streaming of more than 26,000 films, documentaries, and training videos from a variety of independent filmmakers and distributors, including the BBC, PBS, the Criterion Collection, and the Media Education Foundation.

All of these databases and more can be found in UW-Madison’s database library at https://databases.library.wisc.edu/ or by searching under the “Databases” tab at http://www.library.wisc.edu/.
