The UW System Libraries launched a new repository that is designed
to store, index, distribute, and preserve the digital materials of all UW
campuses. It is called MINDS@UW.
We recently established a site within MINDS@UW to host content for
SSEC and CIMSS. You can visit it here: https://minds.wisconsin.edu/handle/1793/79355. So far, we have established one collection called,
“Data and Supporting Materials.”
This is a great opportunity for SSEC, CIMSS or AOS to secure a
permanent, curated, and cost-free location for some of the products of your
research, especially those that require DOIs or perma links. We really
cannot provide this level of permanence locally, so it makes sense to take
advantage of what campus is offering.
Please contact us if you would like to submit content to our site
within MINDS@UW. Katherine Johnson and I are available to advise and work with
you.
Thanks-
Jean Phillips

2. What file formats can be submitted to MINDS@UW?
MINDS@UW can accept almost any self-contained file format,
however, standard, open access and non-proprietary formats are preferred.
Files up to 2GB are accepted, but it may be possible to submit larger files
with pre-approval.
I know this does not solve your large data
storage and curation needs, but I remain optimistic that those solutions are on
the horizon.
3. Are there licensing restrictions?
The libraries have a click-through license that is non-exclusive
and grants MINDS@UW permission to preserve and display your content, but you
retain all rights to your work. Further, if you want to attach a Creative
Commons license to your content, this can be done during the submission
process.
4. What about DOIs?
MINDS@UW can apply a DOI to your content shortly after
submission.
