Most researchers are accustomed to using various databases,
open source resources and navigating paywalls and redirects in order to find
full-text academic articles. It can be a time-consuming and frustrating process.
Fortunately, Kopernio—a Clarivate Analytics company and part of the Web of
Science Group—has developed a way to simplify the process.
Kopernio’s free browser plugin allows researchers to access
full-text journal articles quickly, easily and legally. The tool uses your
university’s library subscriptions to navigate academic databases as well as
scouring the web for open access sources to find full-text PDFs for you.
When registering with Kopernio, you are asked to provide
your university credentials. These are encrypted and stored in your browser
cache to be used each time you conduct a search with the tool. This allows Kopernio to automatically and
securely authenticate you with your institution in order to access subscription
content provided by your university’s library system.
When conducting an article search, the tool will first look
for the Version of Record provided by the publisher. If access is not available
through your library’s subscriptions, Kopernio will then search open access
sources. All of this is done with just one click, providing you with a
streamlined process of finding full-text academic articles.
